Move For Hunger and Five Star Moving and Storage of Sparks have partnered with Fitness Connections, two of Nevada’s premier gyms, to help fill the shelves of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. Starting September 1st, food collection boxes will be conveniently located at Fitness Connections, located at 5390 Longley Lane in Reno and 255 Disc Drive in Sparks. Residents and neighbors are asked to come together to donate unopened, non-perishable food items throughout September.
Any non-members who donate will receive a 7 day Free Pass to Fitness Connections. Five Star Moving & Storage has generously donated all of the collection boxes and will also deliver the donations to the food bank after the event.
“It’s really exciting to see people come together at a time when most aren’t generally thinking about hunger, “says Adam Lowy, Executive Director of Move For Hunger. “According to the latest studies, more than 107,000 people in northern Nevada are living on incomes that put them at risk of hunger every day. Thirty-six percent of those at risk are children. This is a great opportunity for us all to help feed those in need.”
The Summer Food Drive is brought to you by Move For Hunger, a non-profit organization that works with moving companies to collect unwanted, unopened food from those who are relocating and deliver it to local food banks across the country. With the support of its partners, Move For Hunger has already collected over 325,000 pounds of food, providing over life-saving meals to those in need.
